Goa Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte has urged the Central government to bolster the state’s tourism sector.

He emphasized on increasing direct international flights and improving air connectivity from major Indian cities.

In a meeting with Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in New Delhi on Thursday, Khaunte emphasized the need for enhanced international connectivity to attract a larger influx of foreign tourists.

The state is also seeking expedited implementation of the Central government’s PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive) scheme for the Basilica of Bom Jesus.

The tourism department believes this would significantly boost the state’s spiritual and cultural appeal, especially in light of the upcoming exposition of St Francis Xavier’s relics.

Aligning the PRASHAD scheme with the exposition will enrich the overall tourism experience in Goa, said a senior tourism department official.

Khaunte also requested central support for improving Goa’s tourism infrastructure and promoting the state globally.

The Union Tourism Minister has assured full cooperation to enhance tourism initiatives and increase tourist footfall in the coastal state.
